University-Wide Scholarships and Fellowships

Please note that this is not a complete list, and not all funding opportunities are listed. Please contact your graduate program or school for the most up-to-date information. We are in the process of updating this list so that it is as comprehensive as possible.

Presidential Fellowship - The President of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, invites outstanding candidates to apply to Ph.D. programs for consideration as Presidential Fellows. The fellowship allows for a $30,000 stipend for 2 years, full tution remission, medical fee remission, mentorship in applying for prestigious national and international fellowship, and additional years of support for candidates sustaining good standing in their program. Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated outstanding academic accomplishments and exceptional promise for success in research in their chosen discipline. Candidates should apply directly to their graduate program of interest via the online application; no separate application is needed. Complete application materials, including 3 letters of reference, should be submitted to the program no later than January 1 for consideration for Fall matriculation.

The Ralph Johnson Bunche Distinguished Graduate Award - provides a $15,000 stipend plus tuition remission for as many as two years to exceptional, incoming, full-time students with backgrounds of substantial educational or cultural disadvantage. Established in 1979, this fellowship is named after Ralph Johnson Bunche, the African-American Statesman, Nobel Peace Laureate, and 1949 recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws from Rutgers. Bunche fellows are chosen by a university-wide selection committee.
